Television’s biggest night – the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards – aired live on NBC Monday night. Check out a list of winners and losers!

The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were hosted by Seth Meyers, NBC’s newest evening talk show host (Late Night). Meyers, who is hosting the event for the first time, was probably chosen to promote his newish talk show.

Breaking Bad and Modern Family took the top awards in the drama and comedy categories respectively, while Sherlock surprised with three wins of its own.

Why did the Emmys on a Monday instead of its usual Sunday spot? NBC moved the event to a much earlier date this year to avoid a conflict with their Sunday Night Football line up. The last time the Emmys were held on a Monday was in 1976. Another fun fact: This is the first Emmys to air in August since 1992 (they usually air in September).

Speaking on NBC’s Today Show this morning, Meyers spoke about what his game plan was for the event. “These opportunities don’t come around that often,” he said. “I think if you can avoid a train wreck people are pretty happy. People talk more about the Emmys the two months leading up to the Emmys than they do the day after. So you just want, hopefully a week after, no one will be talking about it anymore… I can’t sing and I can’t dance, but there will, I’m hoping at least, be something a little musical in the show… No twerking, nobody wants that.”

As for who he wanted to win? “I’m rooting for Poehler. Jon Hamm has never won an Emmy and I’d love to see that. Nothing would make me happier than seeing my old SNL friends get the gold.”

What do you think of the 2014 Emmy winners?
