As per tradition, the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards were held today – Oscar eve – to celebrate the best independent film has to offer, as Silver Linings Playbook took home four awards.

Silver Linings Playbook almost swept the awards, picking up Best Feature, as well as Best Female Lead for Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar-nominated turn. David O. Russell also beat out stiff competition and picked up both Best Director and Best Screenplay for Silver Linings Playbook.

John Hawkes, who was snubbed from the Oscar nominations, won Best Male for his performance in The Sessions. Helen Hunt, meanwhile, won Best Supporting Female for her turn in The Sessions. Matthew McConaughey was awarded Best Supporting Male for his wonderful Magic Mike performance (“Ladies of Tampa,” anyone?).

For debut films, awards were handed out to Perks of Being a Wallflower for Best First Feature, Safety Not Guaranteed for Best First Screenplay. Oscar favorite (and Best Picture nominee) Amour picked up Best International Feature, while The Invisible War took home Best Documentary. Middle of Nowhere scooped up the John Cassavetes Award for best film made for less than $500,000. Ben Richardson won Best Cinematography for his work on Beasts of the Southern Wild.

The awards, which just took place, can be seen this evening, Saturday, February 23, at 10PM on IFC, with Andy Samberg hosting.
