This morning the lineup for the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival was announced, and it’s the best lineup in recent film festival memory.

The opening night gala film is Rian Johnson’s time travel thriller Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, and Emily Blunt. Ben Affleck’s historical thriller Argo will also appear, as will the Wachowskis’ Cloud Atlas, starring Tom Hanks, Ben Whishaw, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Jim Sturgess, Hugh Grant, James D’Arcy, and Halle Berry. David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro will premiere; Blue Valentine duo Derek Cianfrance and Ryan Gosling will premiere The Place Beyond the Pines; Hyde Park on Hudson starring Bill Murray as FDR will appear. Lastly Mike Newell’s Great Expectations will premiere at the fest.

Also premiering at the festival are Neil Jordan’s Byzantium, starring Saoirse Ronan; The Perks of Being a Wallflower starring Emma Watson; Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts will also premiere. Joss Whedon will also bring his self-produced Much Ado About Nothing to the festival, and the Kristen Wiig feature Imogene will appear.

Of note elsewhere, though likely not premiering at the festival, are Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder and Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina.

Hypable is hoping to bring coverage from the festival, as it’s more than likely to feature several Oscar contenders.
