Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon is one of the most beloved characters on AMC’s The Walking Dead, so it should come as no surprise to women that he might be gay.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, series creator Robert Kirkman said that they’ve discussed his sexuality and would not say no to making him a homosexual.

“All I can say is that it’s been discussed,” he said when asked by ComicBook.com if Daryl being gay “had been considered.”

Kirkman added, “We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we’ll tackle it in the show.”

When asked if AMC would let them make Daryl gay, he said “they absolutely would.”

Kirkman’s comments suggest that, if it happens, they wouldn’t make a big deal out of Daryl being gay. Maybe it would just be hinted at for an episode before he got caught up again in fighting zombies.

Viewers already know that we’ve yet to see Daryl form a close relationship with a woman throughout four seasons of The Walking Dead, which leaves the door open for a gay Daryl plot line.

The Walking Dead has covered a homosexual relationship once before: Alicia (who’s now dead) and Tara were a lesbian couple in season 4.

If Kirkman and company decide to go through with Daryl being gay, the news would definitely disappoint some female fans who have a crush on him. Their dreams of one day dating the fictional crossbow-wielding survivor will be dashed.

Until then, we can catch Daryl in his assumedly-straight glory when The Walking Dead season 5 premieres October 12 on AMC. Watch the trailer for the new episodes!
