An interview with a stuntman working on Thor may have revealed the Dark Elves as the main foes for Thor: The Dark World.

James Grogan, a stuntman working on the film, was interviewed by the blog I Review Too and let slip that he’d been asked to play an elf in the film.

“However what we don’t know is which intergalactic foe or group of foes The Mighty Thor will be aiming his hammer at. Thanks to a brief chat with Hollywood stuntman James Grogan, we may have our answer. Whilst discussing the importance of acting chops in stunt work, Grogan related the experience to a certain Marvel film that he’s currently training for. “The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2,” he explains, “I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”

Based on this interview and the name of the film it seems like a good bet that Thor will be facing the Dark Elves of Svartlafheim. In the comics they’re usually led by Malekith the Accursed (a character rumoured to be appearing in the film) and with The Casket of Ancient Winters already seen in Thor, it’s likely Marvel are adapting a story where the Elves steal the Casket to use as a weapon (a story already used for the Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes TV series).

The Elves’ inclusion would certainly fall in line with the rumours that this film will focus less on Earth and more on the nine realms of Asgard, but bear in mind this doesn’t come from the most credible source and there are several different types of Elves in the comics.

What do you think of the Elves’ possible inclusion in the film?
