Actor Rutger Hauer will be appearing on True Blood‘s sixth season next summer, and some speculate he will play an important role related to Jason and Sookie Stackhouse.

Hauer will play “Macklyn, a mysterious and sinister figure with deep ties to Sookie and Jason,” according to TV Line. Some fans believe that Macklyn may be the person who killed Jason and Sookie’s parents – a plot point that was left open at the end of season 5.

True Blood is going through some major behind-the-scenes changes for season 6. The previous season was creator and executive producer Alan Ball’s last, and Mark Hudis is set to replace him.

Ball revealed last month that True Blood season 6 will have less episodes than previous seasons, which we personally hope will help put more emphasis on all the plot lines they chose to run with. Season 5 was dragged down by stories related to the wolves and shape-shifters that simply were of no interest to us.

True Blood returns on HBO in the summer. Hauer has had roles in Batman Begins, Blade Runner, and Sin City.

Do you think Rutger Hauer’s character will have an important role?
