The Leftovers‘ focus on Kevin Garvey’s sanity continues this week as a new series of events leaves him further in the dark than he suspects.
Kevin Garvey is losing his mind. There is no mystery there, everyone can see it as plain as day. In this week’s season 1, episode 8 “Cairo,” Kevin’s latest venture takes him into the woods where nothing good ever seems to arise from his interactions with the dog hunter. Whatever lurks in the cabin is a result of yet another evening that Kevin cannot remember. It may turn out to be worse than bringing home a new ferocious dog.
In the stills, Patti’s observation of the newly acquired church property seems to put her in an uneasy state. Meanwhile, another bloody interaction breaks out and the Guilty Remnant’s latest initiate, Meg, is found at the center.

‘Cairo’ synopsis:
Kevin fears he’s losing touch with reality after inexplicably finding himself in a difficult situation involving Patti Levin (Ann Dowd), a leader of the Guilty Remnant. Meg (Liv Tyler) loses control during another encounter with Matt (Christopher Eccleston); Jill confronts Aimee (Emily Meade) about her relationship with Kevin; Nora stands up to Laurie (Amy Brenneman), and finds her privacy invaded.
Aimee’s presence in the Garvey household, especially her interactions with Kevin create a plethora of awkward “morning after” moments. Another elephant in the room, Nora and Kevin’s new romance, will be addressed. At least by the party who can still communicate using speech.

The mystery dog hunter, identified as town resident Dean, begins to realize Kevin Garvey may be losing his sanity.
Even after Kevin tosses away a pharmacy’s worth of prescription drugs, his nightmarish memory loss is something that he cannot seem to shake.
Earlier this week, HBO announced that The Leftovers will return for a second season next year.
