  • Peter Jackson Invites You to the Set: In the Company of the Hobbit and Peter Jackson
  • All in a Day’s Work – Experience the film’s challenges and demands, and journey alongside the director into Mirkwood, Lake-town and Dale as the movie’s most intense, pivotal scenes are created
  • Production Videos – Watch production come to life as Peter Jackson gives you an inside look at the making of the film
  • New Zealand: Home of Middle-earth, Part 2 – Travel with Peter Jackson and his team across the stunning locations of New Zealand transformed by the filmmakers into Middle-earth
  • “I See Fire” Music Video – Ed Sheeran’s beautiful theme song from the film is illuminated with this intimate music video
  • The film itself looks great on Blu-ray and it’s a solid second chapter to Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. It’s an improvement from the first film, but it continues to lack the epic nature that The Lord of the Rings trilogy was able to capture.

The film picks up in the third act and Benedict Cumberbatch does an excellent job voicing Smaug the dragon, along with his good friend Martin Freeman who shines during their scenes together in The Lonely Mountain.

While the additional footage included on the discs is a bit light, we look forward to seeing director Peter Jackson’s Extended Edition which will include eight hours of behind-the-scenes footage from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The Extended Edition will be released this December, when the last film in the trilogy hits theaters.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hit theaters on December 13, 2013. It is the second film in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy based on the novels by revered author J.R.R Tolkien. The final movie in The Hobbit trilogy, There and Back Again, will hit theaters December 17, 2014.
