Briefly: There has been a growing camp of support for moving the Academy Awards up into January or even December of an awards year, in an attempt to make the awards even more relevant.

Despite this, the Academy has announced today that the 85th annual Academy Awards will air February 24, 2013. This schedule sticks with tradition, as does the slated January 15 date for the nominations announcement.

Variety reports:

[The Academy] also said the ceremony will be held at the Hollywood and Highland Center, which underwent a last-minute name change last year amid Kodak’s bankruptcy proceedings.
