The ongoing back and forth about Steve Carell being bringing Michael Scott back to The Office continues with more vague comments from people close to the set of the show.

Today, TVLine.com is reporting that despite near confirmation that Steve Carell would not be a part of the series finale airing in May, he may actually be. The report claims that NBC has conducted an 11th hour effort to try to lure Carell back to the set to be part of The Office finale.

The report also says that Carell’s rep says that though he was indeed on the set during the last days of filming, he didn’t shoot any scenes.

Steve Carell has even explained in his own words why he doesn’t think Michael Scott should be a part of the series finale.

Michael Scott has been mentioned in this ninth and final season, most recently appearing in the episode “Promos” where the employees of the office are watching the promos for the documentary which feature snippets of his character. With all the vague comments could Steve Carell technically be appearing in the episode in a flashback of sorts, but not actually have filmed new scenes?

It’s hard to tell with all the conflicting reports happening, but we will know soon enough. The Office one hour series finale will air on May 16.
