A diehard Harry Potter fan himself, The Colbert Report anchor Stephen Colbert has shared his thoughts on the Ron/Hermione debacle sweeping the fandom.

During a segment on Monday night’s show, Colbert proclaimed his love for the Potter series and introduced this weekend’s surprise comments from Rowling.

The comedian – who plays a version of other television news anchors every night – says in the segment that he agrees it was Harry and Hermione who deserved to be together all along. “You don’t need a sorting hat to figure that out,” Colbert said to laughs from his audience. “It’s as clear as the chemistry between Dumbledore and Voldemort.”

Colbert then proposes that Rowling release two new books: Harry Potter and the Realization He’s Made a Huge Mistake (“In this one, Harry turns his back on his wife and kids and has an illicit affair with Hermione at the Hogsmeade Best Western.”), and Ron Weasley and the Studio Apartment of Shame (“Ron goes on fantastic adventures with his new best friends: a bottle of tequila and a futon found on the curb.”).

The full interview between Rowling and interviewer/Hermione Granger actress Emma Watson will be released later this week, and it will hopefully shine a better light on exactly what the Harry Potter author said concerning the relationships in the series.

The Colbert Report airs weeknights at 11:30 p.m. eastern/pacific on Comedy Central, preceded by Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show at 11 p.m. Both shows will frequently poke fun at pop culture after they discuss the political stories of the day.
