Legendary has announced that Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct a King Kong origin story titled Skull Island, and Tom Hiddleston will star.

Legendary unveiled the title to another movie at Comic-Con this year: Skull Island. It was a surprise and the studio has now released some more information concerning the King Kong origin film.

The film’s script is being written by Max Borenstein, which is reportedly focused on exploring the island and its mysterious and dangerous animals.

As we saw in the Comic-Con footage, King Kong will make an appearance, but now we have Tom Hiddleston joining the film and we’re unsure who he’ll be playing.

Hiddleston has continued to prove he’s an excellent actor and bringing someone as commercially successful as him is a good move on Legendary’s part.

The actor has been playing Loki in The Avengers and Thor franchise with Marvel, but his story arc has dwindled over the last few films. We imagine he’ll be looking for large projects to attach himself to and this seems like the first new franchise.

It’ll be interesting to see who Hiddleston will be playing and more importantly, what Skull Island will end up being about. We imagine King Kong will have a few enemies to fight, as we saw with Legendary’s recent film Godzilla.

The studio is focusing on the monster franchises right now, and it’s certainly exciting to see them on the big screen.

Skull Island’s release date is set for November 4, 2016.
