Marvel studio head Kevin Feige has mentioned the possibility of including an animated feature as a part of the Marvel cinematic universe, but since it would be years before such a project could get off the ground we haven’t thought much about the rumors…until now.

Reports from a very reputable Disney blogging site have exploded over a single word that seems to hint at Disney’s future intentions. Check it out and let us know if you think we’re just looking too far into this.

The projects competing for 2014/2015 are the uber-secret film from Don Hall, which will be a marvelously unexpected project if it ever gets the green light, and Nathan Greno and Byron Howard’s films which are deep in development.”

“That project, once announced will generate a lot of buzz in certain geek communities, as it’s going to surprise a lot of people for what it is and what it’s not. But it’s in the very early embryonic stage and it depends on how well the project is received upon the presentation that is being prepared for John [Lasseter] and Ed [Catmull].

Now, we received word from Slashfilm recently that Kevin Feige is open to embracing an animated superhero film, but to exactly what capacity should we expect it? Will the next step in the evolution of the Marvel cinematic universe be an animated feature? Pixar has already introduced a family of superheroes to the world, could they be planning to introduce them into the Marvel mythos?

But it would be upsetting if we had to see a family torn apart by Civil War

Should we expect to see an animated character in The Avengers 2? Will The Incredibles make an appearance to make up for the Fantastic Four that Marvel sold to 20th Century Fox? Will we see an already existing Marvel property (Ant-Man, Doctor Strange) in an animated form? It’s all speculation at this point, but fun speculation nonetheless.
