Disney+ is gearing up to bring us more Nick Fury — and Samuel L. Jackson is on board to reprise his role as part of a brand new Marvel series!
According to Variety, actor Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to reprise his MCU role as Nick Fury in a brand new Marvel series coming down the pipeline at Disney+.
Jackson has been a long time member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe family, where he’s portrayed S.H.I.E.L.D. head Nick Fury since he first appeared at the tail end of the first Iron Man film back in 2008.
Meanwhile, Nick Fury’s last appearance came in last year’s Spider-Man sequel, Far From Home.
Though both Fury and fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill are featured throughout the sequel, it’s not until the end that it’s revealed that both were actually Skrulls in disguise. So where’s the real Fury been all this time while Peter Parker’s been battling Mysterio? It turns out, he’s off in space commanding a Skrull spaceship.
Neither Disney nor reps for Samuel L. Jackson have commented on today’s big news, so the jury’s still out with regards to what we can expect the forthcoming Marvel series at Disney+ to revolve around. That also means that while it’d be easy to assume that the streamer may be planning to give Fury his own series, it’s also just as likely that he might merely be heavily featured as part of a Marvel series with a different focus.
Even so, given the twist of Fury’s real whereabouts at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it’s possible that perhaps the streamer’s newest Marvel series could dive deeper into what the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is doing up in space.
Guess we’ll have to wait for Marvel and Disney to reveal more details about the plot of the new Marvel mystery series!
