The SoapGirls probably aren’t on the radar of a lot of Americans, but maybe they should be.

If you’ve never heard of The SoapGirls, we wouldn’t blame you. They’re a pop duo from South Africa who are poised to hit the American airwaves. And if their popularity in their home country is any indication, they could be making a serious impression in the States as well.

With any good pop duo comes a good backstory, and The SoapGirls have one of the best ones we’ve heard.

Originally hailing from France, the sisters later moved to South Africa. They’ve been performing since they were kids, around the age of eight, singing songs on the street, while dancing, performing skits, and selling handmade soap (hence their name).

But their story doesn’t stop there. With the profits made from their soap, the sisters donated to the homeless and bought equipment for their local hospital.

It’s no wonder that the residents of South Africa love them for the people they are, but what about their music?

Catchy and sassy, the girls have a sound that is pure pop. Even though they’ve been performing since they were kids, they officially began their music career in 2007. In 2011 they released their debut album and topped the South African charts.

So, what would come next? The world stage, of course.

And one of the biggest stages is right here in the U.S. The SoapGirls plan to have their American debut hit shelves in 2014, but in the meantime you can check out two of their newest songs, “Lie to Me” and “Looking for Love.” If you like catchy and danceable pop music, we definitely think you should give The SoapGirls a listen.
