Actress Rosa Salazar has been cast as Brenda in The Maze Runner sequel The Scorch Trials!

The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that the young actress will be joining the Maze Runner family for the upcoming film The Scorch Trials, which starts shooting next month.

Within the books Brenda is seen as a strong independent character that Thomas relies heavily on once outside of the maze. She’s more familiar with the outside world and lends quite a bit to the overall plot of the story. Absolutely a key character in the Maze Runner world.

This isn’t Salazar’s first experience within the young adult adaptation genre. She was also recently cast as Lynn in the Divergent sequel Insurgent.

Further credits include Parenthood and American Horror Story.

And for fun you can check out Salazar participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge bellow:

This isn’t the only casting news we’ve received recently for The Scorch Trials. Last week we learned that Aidan Gillen has been hired to play Assistant Director Janson, better known in the books as Rat-Man.

We eagerly await more casting announcements for the Scorch Trials film as they are made, especially for key characters such as Aris and Jorge. As soon as those details are released, we’ll have them for you here at Hypable.
