The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is really pushing the addition of three important characters in the build up to its December release. Today we have yet another new look at Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, and Lee Pace.

The three actors play Legolas, Tauriel, and Thranduil in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit sequel The Desolation of Smaug. They will appear on the cover of the new Empire Magazine which hits newsstands June 27.

Presumably new interview material will be included with the cover story, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for new Desolation of Smaug goods surfacing online in the next few days.

In our first look at Tauriel at the top of this month, fans were concerned with her appearance because she looked similar to a “Peter Pan/Zelda” character. This latest look in Empire sheds her clothing in a darker light, which looks more in line with the costumes in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Tauriel is an entirely new character dreamed up by Jackson and his team, and Hobbiton-dwellers are looking forward to seeing a strong female character inserted within Tolkien’s classic story.

These three actors are currently in New Zealand filming additional scenes for The Desolation of Smaug and the third Hobbit movie There and Back Again. Following the release of Smaug’s trailer a few weeks ago, Jackson recorded the trio of stars while they watched fans react to the trailer. What ensued was a great viral video.

The Desolation of Smaug opens in theaters December 13. The titular role is played by Martin Freeman.

Thanks, Empire.
