The upcoming adaptation of the wildly popular novel The Mortal Instruments has finally found a director. Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid) is set to direct Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) for a set production date of August 15.

Here’s a synopsis of the novel:

In the series’ first book “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones”, set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Said producer Robert Kulzer on the appointment of Swart:

“Harald Zwart really understands the visuals and heart of The Mortal Instruments. That was
crucial to us. Of course, having [author] Cassandra Clare’s support throughout and collaborating with her
on this project has been especially rewarding.”

Are you happy with Zwart and Collins for the film?
