The synopsis for Downton Abbey season 4, episode 3 which airs Sunday, January 19 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on PBS reads, “Amid the fallout of the eventful house party a trip to the bright lights of London is planned. Here Sir John Bullock shows his true colours and Rose finds gallantry comes from an unexpected quarter. Gregson shares ambitious plans with Edith, taking their relationship to another level.”
It continues, “Back at the Abbey Mary faces a pressing question about her future, Isobel accepts an offer from Dr Clarkson which rekindles her social conscience, and the manipulative Edna finds herself outmaneuvered. Below stairs Carson reveals surprisingly intimate details of his former life, and Daisy’s clumsy attempt to get closer to Alfred may push him further away.”
Though it’s not mentioned in the synopsis, the episode will of course start to pick up the pieces following the attack on Anna by Lord Gillingham’s valet Mr. Green. After the plot twist aired last week, many viewers turned to the internet to express their shock that such a storyline would be introduced. As you can see from the photos and synopsis, tonight’s episode will include a new, male love interest for a lady at Downton – but it’s not Mary.
