It’s a big night for Doctor Who fans, as the BBC unveil a prologue, a trailer for, and the title of this year’s Christmas special – Jenna Louise-Coleman’s debut as the new companion!

It was way back in the Spring that Emmerdale and Titanic star Jenna-Louise Coleman was announced as the new Doctor Who companion. Back then, we knew we had a long wait in front of us before we saw her television debut – which is why it was such a big surprise when she popped up nearly four months early. If we thought her early appearance meant we would understand more about her character, we were sadly mistaken. After Oswin Oswald turned out to be a Dalek and died, we were more in the dark than ever before.

Finally, we have a bit more context as to who Clara is – as well as the threats she will be facing when she jumps into the TARDIS for the first time!

Check out the prologue “The Great Detective” below, courtesy of the BBC.

“The Great Detective” sees Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax appealing for the Doctor’s help – only to find that he has retired. Will anyone be able to convince him to come out of his mourning period and save the day? Probably, and we imagine her name is Clara.

Along with the prologue came the trailer for the episode, which it has been revealed will be called “The Snowmen”.

There’s a brilliant new prequel to the Christmas Special starring Matt Smith as the Time Lord and featuring a number of familiar faces… If you need any more incentive to tune in we’ll just add that it was written by Steven Moffat!

Aside from that, there’s a new, exclusive preview trailer of the Christmas Special that includes the first glimpse of the Doctor with his new companion… Both items will be on BBC One on Friday, 16 November and will be available to view online soon after their Children in Need premiere.

“The Snowmen” airs (unsurprisingly) on December 25, starring Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman and Richard E. Grant.

What do you think of the prologue?
