The cover art has been released for Cress by Marissa Meyer, along with a new excerpt from the forthcoming young adult novel.

Cress, the third book in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series, has received its cover reveal in USA Today. The novel will tell the ‘twisted fairytale’ of Cress, a Lunar girl trapped alone in a satellite for most of her life. Cress floats in her lonely orbit with nothing to keep her company but computer screens, a disembodied voice, and her exceptionally long hair.

The cover art works off of Cress‘s origins in the story of Rapunzel, and also continues the red motif which originated in Cinder and continued in Scarlet.

Marissa Meyer provided an interview along with the cover reveal, sharing a few details about the story. “[Cress] meets up with Cinder and Scarlet and the other characters… really early,” Meyer said, hinting that “Things fall apart quickly.”

Readers can also expect to be re-introduced to a character named Jacin, who appears briefly in Cinder and “takes on a much bigger role than [Meyer] anticipated.”

Meyer also revealed that Winter, the fourth and final protagonist in The Lunar Chronicles series, will be introduced toward the end of Cress. “She has a small part in Book 3,” the author shared, “but the chapter she’s in might be my favorite chapter of the book because she’s a very interesting character and a lot of fun to write.”

A new excerpt from Cress was shared along with the cover reveal, featuring the meeting of several main characters in The Lunar Chronicles. The first chapter of the novel was released earlier this year.
