Today, THR released the first exclusive look at Freak Show with a poster featuring the stars of the latest installment of the hit FX series. Let’s break it down:

Flying high above is Sarah Paulson’s Siamese twins, Bette and Dot Tattler. Just below her, the top row of the pyramid features Frances Conroy and Dennis O’Hare’s unnamed characters bookending Angela Bassett as Desiree Dupree and Kathy Bates as Effil Darling. This is the first confirmation that Bates will take the role of the Bearded Lady in addition to the ex-wife of Michael Chiklis’s character.

Supporting their Freak Show cast mates, the second row features The World’s Strongest Man, Wendell Del Toredo, played by Michael Chiklis. Angela Bassett’s lovely leopard print waist band ties her to the man who left Kathy Bates and their son, Evan Peters’ Jimmy Darling. Peters supports the other end of the platform.

The woman who needs no introduction, your ringleader for Freak Show Elsa Mars, played by Jessica Lange takes center stage. The German expat’s roots come out in the tagline of the poster: Wir Sind Alle Freaks, which translates to “we are all freaks.”

Surrounding the main cast are an array of performers ranging from sword eaters to giant men to acrobats. The supporting cast will play a larger role this season when it comes to the performance element of the show. Ryan Murphy states in an interview with THR:

The special-ability cast that we have is amazing and I feel so thrilled because for so many of them, it was their dream to be actors and they didn’t have any opportunities. There’s a great community. They feel part of something perhaps for the first time in their life and that’s an amazing thing that I was really emotional about when I was directing them.

Murphy reveals that he directed the first episode of the series. He also connects the show back to the series’ second chapter, Asylum saying, “The story in many ways dovetails with Asylum, because they leave one era and you can see many of them in real life were put into asylums. There’s a great symmetry we’ve come up with that’s rewarding.”
