After months of speculation, actor Dominic Cooper will officially reprise his role as Howard Stark in Marvel’s Agent Carter.

Marvel’s synergy between the big and small screens continues as Dominic Cooper joins the cast of the upcoming miniseries, Agent Carter. The actor, first seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, will play the charismatic inventor Howard Stark – a man who looms large in both the history of S.H.I.E.L.D. and his son Tony’s memory.

Cooper is the second member of Captain America: The First Avenger to join the cast of Agent Carter. First, of course, is Hayley Atwell in the role of Peggy Carter herself. Atwell also made a brief but exciting appearance on the season premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in which it was clear that the no-nonsense agent has any intention of retiring at the conclusion of World War II.

Dominic Cooper joins a cast recently filled out by Boardwalk Empire‘s Shea Whigham. Whigham will play the chief of the Scientific Strategic Reserve, Roger Dooley, and is expected to be a major player in Agent Carter. The character will supervise Peggy Carter and fellow agents Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) and Jack Thompson (Chad Michael Murray.) James D’Arcy will also play Edwin Jarvis, Howard Stark’s butler. There is no word on whether or not Marvel plans to add any other women to the cast.

Set in New York City in 1946, Agent Carter will follow Peggy as she builds S.H.I.E.L.D. – and continues the fight against lingering HYDRA infiltrators. On a personal level, Peggy will cope with her continued grief at losing Steve Rogers, while asserting herself as female leader and spy in the regressive atmosphere of post-war America.

Agent Carter will be helmed by Resurrection showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. Early episodes will be directed by Captain America: The Winter Solider directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and possibly Joe Johnson of Captain America: The First Avenger.

Marvel’s Agent Carter will air on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. on ABC in early 2015.
