Aaron Sorkin recently sat down for an in-depth interview covering a huge range of topics including season 2 filming and timeline on HBO’s The Newsroom, his work on the Steve Jobs biopic and much more.
Aaron Sorkin was recently interviewed as part of The Daily Beast and Newsweek’s ‘Hero Summit’. In the interview, Sork let slip the entire timeline for the second season of The Newsroom. As we recently reported, the season 2 story will open in roughly September 2011. Now, in an answer about The Newsroom possibly covering the recent General Petraeus scandal, Sorkin says:
Unfortunately season 2 of The Newsroom, which began shooting this week – our timeline literally ends the day before the Petraeus story broke, and I can’t include it.
The Petraeus scandal broke on November 9, 2012, which means season 2 of The Newsroom is set to cover roughly September 2011 – November 8, 2012. Aaron Sorkin on Steve Jobs biopic
While working on The Newsroom, Sorkin has also been writing the screenplay for Steve Jobs, the working title for a biopic of the Apple co-founder. The film is to be based off the book by the same name, written by Walter Isaacson.
In this interview Sorkin shared the unique structure for the film, saying “this entire movie is going to be three scenes, and three scenes only, that all take place in real time.” The three scenes he plans on including will all be backstage of a product launch, those of “the Mac, the second one being NeXT (after he had left Apple) and the third one being the iPod.”
On his relationship with Jobs, Sorkin said “We knew each other over the phone. He would call me from time-to-time out of the blue to compliment me on something he had just seen,” and shared this fantastic anecdote from the last time he spoke to Jobs, when the Apple CEO apparantley asked him to write a pixar movie, which went something like this:
Sorkin: I didn’t think I would be able to make an inanimate object talk
Jobs: Once you make them talk, they won’t be inanimate anymore
Can you imagine a Pixar film written by Sorkin?
