Agent Carter and Conviction star Hayley Atwell will lead The BBC’s four-part Howards End adaptation.

Hayley Atwell is back on British TV, though sadly not to play the Doctor in Doctor Who.

The actress, who currently stars on ABC’s Conviction, will star opposite Matthew Macfayden and Tracey Ullman in the period drama adaptation of the 1910 novel by E. M. Forster, Howards End, which explores social conventions and family relations around the turn of the century.

Howards End follows three families in England who struggle through changing social conventions: the wealthy Wilcoxes, the half-German Schlegel siblings, and the impoverished young Bast couple.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Atwell will play Margaret Schlegel; Macfayden is Henry Wilcox, and Ullman is Aunt Juley Mund.

From Wikipedia: “The idealistically motivated, well read, highly intelligent Schlegel sisters seek to help the struggling Basts, wishing at the same time to rid the Wilcoxes of some of their deep-seated social and economic prejudices.”

The four-part miniseries will be co-produced by The BBC and Starz, written by Kenneth Lonergan and directed by Hettie Macdonald.
