Xbox E3 2019 recap: Microsoft announces new console codenamed Project Scarlett

Microsoft announced over 60 new games at their Xbox E3 2019 briefing, along with a next-generation console.

Bleeding Edge looks a bit like an Overatch clone, but a fun one at that. It is being developed by Ninja Theory, a new Microsoft development team.

A new game from the creators of Minecraft will be an action/adventure game in the same universe as the block building simulator. The game is coming Spring 20202, and is called Minecraft: Dungeons.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will star a new Jedi protagonist. It will release this November 15, 2019.

Blair Witch will see its first current-gen video game adaptation this August 30. The horror/survival game is set in 1996, following the events of the first film in the series. A very grizzly trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 starring Keanu Reeves showed just how far Microsoft was willing to go in their presentation; it releases April 16, 2020.

The simple art style of peaceful homemaking/exploration sidescroller Spiritfarer looks like a nice time. Battletoads made a surprise return with a 3-player co-op game announcement for the beat ’em up series.

In a pencil drawn comic book presentation, The Legend of Wright will have players fending off giant crafted creatues. Xbox Game Pass will see games like Unto The End, Blazing Chrome, and Secret Neighbor hit the subscription service at their respective launches.

Hollow Knight, the Borderlands collection, and Batman: Arkham Knight are also on their way to the Xbox Game Pass. The entire Master Chief collection will come over to the open beta of Xbox Game Pass for PC, which launches today. The subscription costs $9.99 per month, and has over 100 PC games. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will allow players access to both console and PC versions of the subscription, and Xbox Live Gold, all for $14.99 per month. The Ultimate Pass is temporarily available for $1.

Flight Simulator brings the aviation series over to the Xbox One, putting players in the cockpit of commercial airplanes as they explore the open world. Age of Empires II will have a remastered release for Xbox One this fall.

Wasteland 3 is a sequel in the survival crafting series set in a post-apocalyptic Colorado Springs. Double Fine Productions has joined Xbox Studios, known for cult title Psychonauts.

Psychonauts 2 premiered a new trailer, marking the latest footage of the game that was announced at The Game Awards 2018. Razz is up to his old platforming adventures, and the game looks just as fun as the first.

A new LEGO Star Wars game following the events of episodes 1-9 of the Star Wars films is in development. LEGO Star Wars: The SkyWalker Saga releases in 2020.

Dragon Ball: Kakarot will be a new fighting title hitting early 2020. 12 Minutes is an interactive thriller with a top-down view that follows a Groundhog Day-like story. War to the Woods feels a lot like indie titles Flower and Journey. Players take control of a father deer and his fawn as they solve puzzles and follow a light to get home.

Gears 5: Bound by Blood‘s trailer featured an amazing remix of Billie Ellish’s “Bury a Friend.” The shooter game will release on September 10, 2019. In a flashy display of on-stage lights and fog, Gears 5: Escape showcased a gory trailer of soldiers fighting off alien forces in the coming co-op campaign.

The Xbox Elite Controller 2 has seen some fine tuning to the pro controller remote, giving players a more exact control over their gaming experiences. The controller can last up to an impressive 40 hours on one charge.

Dyling Light 2 releases Spring 2020, and looks a bit like Assassin’s Creed. Forza Horizon 4 will add in LEGO characters to the series as they race around in blocky builds of racing cars. The expansion pack for the LEGO characters launches June 13.

Chibi Funko versions of Gears characters are coming in Gears POP for mobile devices. State of Decay 2: Heartland gives players two paths to explore; the zombie title’s expansion is out now.

Sega is bringing MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2 to Xbox One with crossplay to other consoles in Spring of 2020. Crossfire X will make its console debut on the Xbox One.

Tales of Arise is a JROPG hitting Xbox One’s online store in 2020. Borderlands 3 releases September 13, 2019. A new free DLC for owners of the Handsome Collection will set the stage for Borderlands 3.

A new game from George R.R. Martin called Elden Ring was announced, and is sure to catch the attention of Game of Thrones fans with its exciting action/adventure gameplay and lore-based story.

Xbox E3 2019 recap: Microsoft announces new console

A next-generation console from Microsoft has been announced. It will be focused on “one thing, and one thing only: gaming.” The same team behind the Xbox One’s development will be creating the new console.

The console will have an SSD, which will act as the console’s virtual RAM. It is codenamed Project Scarlett, and will boast minimal load times for a more immersive experience in gaming. Project Scarlett will release in the Holiday season of 2020.

Microsoft ended the Xbox E3 2019 briefing with the announcement that Halo Infinite will be a Project Scarlett release title.
