Wynonna Earp, easily one of the best, most underrated shows on TV, is returning to Syfy this June for its second season.
If you haven’t watched Emily Andras’ smart, feminist supernatural Western Wynonna Earp, you’re in luck! It’s on Netflix now!
The freshman drama stunned audiences last summer with its first season, and at SDCC 2016, we were very excited to learn that Syfy had renewed it for season 2.
Now, the release date has been announced, and it’s only a few months away: Variety has learned that the first episode of Wynonna Earp will air Friday, June 9.
And we’ve got the season 2 trailer, too, full of Earper goodness!
The series is based on the graphic novel by Beau Smith and stars Melanie Scrofano as the titular Wynonna, a descendant of the infamous gunslinger Wyatt Earp.
Because of her family legacy, Wynonna is the ‘heir’ to Wyatt’s gun and the only one who can save her dusty hometown from the demons haunting its soil. Meanwhile she’s got her own demons to contend with, too, and when we spoke to actress Melanie Scrofano at Comic-Con last year she admitted that she’d like to see Wynonna get “even more messed up” in season 2.
Wynonna also has a sister, Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), who enters into a relationship with police officer Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell), the pair making up the amazing and very popular LGBT relationship ‘WayHaught.’
They are an amazing, positive depiction of a wlw relationship on TV, the characters are fantastic both individually and together, and it’s honestly worth watching the show just for them — but you don’t have to, because everything else is great, too!
Also starring is Shamier Anderson as Wynonna’s partner in crime Deputy Marshall Xavier Dolls, and Tim Rozon as Doc Holliday, Wynonna’s partner in, er, other crimes.
Wynonna Earp season 1 ended on a huge cliffhanger, and we can’t wait to find out what happens next!
