‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ ‘In The Heights’ releases delayed due to coronavirus

Moviegoers looking forward to seeing Wonder Woman 1984 and In The Heights will have to sit tight for a while longer.

On Tuesday (March 24), Warner Bros. revealed that the theatrical release dates for Wonder Woman 1984 and the big screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award winning musical, In The Heights, have both been pushed back.

Both Warner Brothers entities are the latest highly anticipated theatrical releases to have their previously scheduled theatrical releases affected by the current coronavirus pandemic.

So, when will moviegoers be able to catch both films in theaters?

As Variety reports, the studio has officially shifted Wonder Woman 1984 ’s release date from June 5 to August 14. As for In The Heights, unfortunately, the adaptation (originally set to debut on June 26) has yet to land a new release date. As such, the highly anticipated movie musical’s release has been put on hold indefinitely.

“When we greenlit Wonder Woman 1984 it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theaters on August 14,” said WB Pictures group chair, Toby Emmerich in a statement. “We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then.”

Meanwhile, Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter to console fans who will undoubtedly be disappointed to learn of the fact that we’ll have to wait a bit longer to experience In The Heights at the movies.

“We had the best summer of our lives filming #InTheHeightsMovie last year. We gathered in Washington Heights and told this story, on location in this neighborhood, with our neighbors and community. We couldn’t wait to share it with you. But we are going to have to wait a little longer,” wrote Miranda in a text post signed by himself, director Jon Chu, and writer Quiara Alegria Hudes.

“With the uncertainty in our world, right now, the release of In The Heights is being postponed. When we can safely gather again, flags in hand, we will be there, enjoying this movie in theaters. We’ll have the premiere uptown. The best summer of our lived, together. Patience & Faith. Paciencia y Fe.”
