Universal Hollywood’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open in 2016, the theme park announced today.
No further details, like a specific opening date, were shared about the forthcoming land, but it’s assumed that Hollywood’s Wizarding World will include the same attractions that Orlando’s version currently holds. These rides and shops include the thrill ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, The Three Broomsticks restaurant, and a ride for kids featuring Buckbeak.
Universal writes in a press release, “Similar to the dynamic Universal Orlando Resort themed land that opened in 2010, the Hollywood experience will be faithful to the visual landscape of the fiction and films, including Hogwarts castle that will serve as the iconic focal point of the impressively themed environment.”
Construction on the new Harry Potter land recently went vertical, according to photos of the area taken by park guests in recent weeks. The theme park removed the Gibson Amphitheater venue last year to make way for the new attraction.
Universal Hollywood also announced today that a new area themed around their The Simpsons attraction will open in spring 2015 and a new ride called Fast & Furious – Supercharged will arrive in 2015.
The announcements come on the heels of new attractions over the past couple years at Universal Hollywood including Transformers: The Ride – 3D and more recently Despicable Me Minion Mayhem.
Hollywood’s Wizarding World was first announced in December 2011. Meanwhile, Orlando is currently building an expansion themed around Diagon Alley and a working Hogwarts Express train. Universal Japan is working on a Wizarding World land as well that is expected to open later this year.
