If you’re fan of cats, musical theater or Taylor Swift, the upcoming movie Cats will be your next favorite film.
Based on the long-running musical of the same name, the musical is about — you guessed it — cats. In this case, a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who have converged as cats rarely do at the annual Jellicle Ball.
The music was composed by the iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber and features the song Memories, which you likely recognize even if you’ve never watched Cats and will definitely know if you were ever in an elementary school choir program.
The trailer features that iconic song, along with a bevy of stars with digital fur on their face. Watch it below!
As the movie is an adaptation, there will likely be changes to the script to accommodate the different medium, with the official film synopsis saying that “the film reimagines the musical for a new generation with spectacular production design, state-of-the-art technology, and dance styles ranging from classical ballet to contemporary, hip-hop to jazz, street dance to tap.”
Tom Hooper, of The King’s Speech and Les Miserables fame, is the director, based on a screenplay co-written by him and Rocketman’s Lee Hall.
Cats, starring Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, and Jason Derulo, comes out December 20, 2019.
