AMC’s newest Walking Dead spin-off series The Walking Dead: World Beyond has been postponed amid concerns about the coronavirus.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond was originally set to debut on April 12; however, AMC announced Friday on The Walking Dead’s Twitter account that it would be postponing the debut indefinitely, saying that the show will now debut “later this year.”
According to Deadline, The Walking Dead: World Beyond wrapped filming but was in post-production on the last few episodes, which has been impacted by the coronavirus-related company closures. AMC may have also been affected by the loss of crucial ad buys.
The series will be the second spinoff show of the television franchise, with The Walking Dead as the original and Fear the Walking Dead as the first spinoff.
According to AMC, the series follows the first generation raised in a surviving civilization of the post-apocalyptic world.
The official synopsis describes the series as being about two sisters, along with two friends, who leave a place of safety and comfort to brave dangers, known and unknown, living and undead on an important quest.
Pursued by those who wish to protect them and those who wish to harm them, a tale of growing up and transformation unfurls across dangerous terrain, challenging everything they know about the world, themselves, and each other. Some will become heroes, some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever.
The series stars Alexa Mansour as Hope, Nicolas Cantu as Elton, Hal Cumpston as Silas, Annet Mahendru as Huck, Aliyah Royale as Iris, Nico Tortorella as Felix and Joe Holt as Leo Bennett.
The show will also feature Emmy winner Julia Ormond (Temple Grandin) as Elizabeth, Natalie Gold as Lyla, Al Calderon as Barca, Scott Adsit as Tony, and Ted Sutherland as Percy.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond will have writer and producer Matt Negrete as the showrunner, alongside chief content officer Scott M. Gimple.
