According to Deadline, Elba has joined the cast of the upcoming spinoff as the movie’s villain.
Unfortunately, fans hoping to find out more about Elba’s role in the action movie spinoff will have to wait a bit longer.
Though the studio has offered up a few genera details surrounding the plot of the film, they’re keeping a lot of specifics close to the chest.

The Crown actress Vanessa Kirby is buckling in for the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise.
According to Variety, actress Vanessa Kirby is currently in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming Fast and Furious spinoff movie, Hobbs and Shaw.
The spinoff action movie reunites Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham who are set to reprise their roles as special agent Luke Hobbs and criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw, respectively.
Hobbs and Shaw don’t usually see eye to eye, but in the upcoming spinoff, we’ll be seeing the two tough guys join forces on a new mission.
Kirby, who has officially wrapped on Netflix’s The Crown where she played Princess Margaret, is currently in negotiations to star opposite Johnson and Statham as an MI-5 agent who also happens to be Shaw’s sister.
The spinoff is being helmed by David Leitch who most recently directed Deadpool 2. Meanwhile longtime Fast and Furious veteran Chris Morgan has been charged with penning the script for the forthcoming flick.
Hobbs and Shaw isn’t the only blockbuster action movie we’ll be seeing Kirby in.
Up next, the Netflix alumn will be starring opposite Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson, and Michelle Monaghan in this summer’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
Hobbs and Shaw is set to start production this fall. The film is slated to hit theaters next summer on July 26, 2019.
