Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fans thirsty for more are about to get one final adventure with Kimmy, Titus and the rest of the gang.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt may have aired its final season earlier this year, but the fun isn’t over just yet.
According to Deadline, Netflix has announced plans to air a series special sometime next year. Like Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch, the upcoming Kimmy Schmidt special is set to make use of Netflix’s interactive technology.
Co-creator of the series, Tina Fey, was on hand to help make the big announcement as part of the series’ panel at FYSEE.
“We’re thrilled to announce that we’re about to start production on an all-new Interactive Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt special, set to debut on Netflix in 2020,” said Fey according to Deadline. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was one of the first original comedy series on Netflix, and now it will be its first interactive comedy event.”
Fey went on to explain why the interactive model is a perfect fit for the series saying that fans who tune in will be able to weigh in on the choices the characters make. The show runner also teased that fans can expect a variety of jokes depending on which path they choose for the series’ zany cast of characters.
“I think it’s a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series,” added Fey.
Both Fey and Robert Carlock are on board to create and produce the upcoming special. In addition, the series’ core cast members Ellie Kemper (Kimmy), Tituss Burgess (Titus Andromedon), Jane Krakowski (Jacqueline), and Carol Kane (Lillian) are all on board to reprise their roles.
Netflix has been making good use of its interactive technology between Bandersnatch and the relatively new Bear Grylls series, You vs. Wild.
We’ll be excited to tune in and play along when the Kimmmy Schmidt special makes it’s big premiere sometime next year!
