Production on AMC’s The Walking Dead has been temporarily shut down following the injury of a stuntman on set.

Update: TMZ reports Bernecker died Thursday evening due to his injuries. He was surrounded by friends and family, including his girlfriend who is also a stuntwoman on Walking Dead.

Original story: EW reports that the hit AMC drama has officially halted production after stuntman John Bernecker was seriously injured on set.

According to AMC, Bernecker, whose credits include The Fate of the Furious and Logan, suffered “serious injuries” on the set of the series in Georgia, before being hospitalized.

The network released a statement shortly after the incident occurred explaining what happened.

“We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set,” reads the AMC statement. “He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for SAG-AFTRA also released a statement where they revealed that they’re aware of the accident and are currently in the midst of getting to the bottom of what went wrong.

“As always, the safety and security of our members and others on set is of crucial concern to us and we are focused on this in our investigation,” said the SAG-AFTRA spokesperson. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the performer and his family.”

Like the rest of the cast and crew of The Walking Dead, we’ll be keeping John Bernecker in our thoughts and hope he recovers soon.

Season 8 of The Walking Dead is set to premiere on AMC in October.
