After months of buildup many The Walking Dead fans have been left feeling bitter after the season 6 finale left more questions than answers.
It’s a sad, sad day in The Walking Dead fandom. Not because fans are mourning the loss of a character, but because they’re mourning the loss of good writing. For a while fans knew that Negan was being introduced at the end of the season which inevitably meant death. What fans weren’t expecting was for his entrance to be ruined by a senseless cliffhanger.
If you read Hypable’s review last night then you know we’re really disappointed by the run around that Rick and the group did. Most of the episode was spent trying different routes that were always blocked. When the buildup came to a climax and the group was caught by the Saviors, it seemed like the episode could be saved.
However, despite some serious acting skills by the cast, the scene just didn’t play out in a satisfying way. After a long monologue Negan decided to play eenie meenie miney moe to decide who dies. Other than seeing him go around the group, fans don’t know for sure who he landed on.
Instead of getting to see what happened, the camera changed POV and fans saw the beat down from the view of the victim. This is even worse than the time they played with us about Glenn’s “death” earlier in the season. If you’re going to get fans this invested in a storyline, at least give us some resolution before an extended break.
Admittedly, not everyone is disappointed in the events but enough to show that The Walking Dead made a mistake. Here are just some fan reactions on social media:
#TWD always gets amazing season premiere ratings, so did they HAVE to do a cliffhanger? I just don’t see the point.

An incredible @WalkingDead_AMC season ended on possibly the worst cliffhanger ever. #failure

Are you freaking serious. Way to ruin one of the most important scenes in the entire freaking series

Honestly, I think the writers making the death a cliffhanger spoiled the moment #TheWalkingDead

How goddamn DARE you spit in the face of the fans like this. Especially after Glenn. Wait until next season to find out? NO. #TheWalkingDead

RIP #thewalkingdead – you're still kinda good but you've lost your soul. Cliffhanger finale to drum up premiere ratings? Ugh. So cheap. :(

We wasted 90 minutes for this? Which 75-80% of the length time was just commercials? >:( #TheWalkingDead

Super cheap ending, #TheWalkingDead! Cheesy use of the subjective POV camera (he just killed US!), and super manipulative cliffhanger. :(

There were countless more we could have chosen from, but you get the picture. The Walking Dead fans are not happy. Will they stop watching because of this? Maybe, but probably not. The show should be wary about pulling too many of these stunts on their fans though because it’s quickly wearing them down!
