We lost two talented contestants this week on The Voice, but the finalists are all so talented, it’s hard to even pick a favorite.
Reba
Blake’s good pal, and last week’s guest advisor, Reba McEntire, took the stage this week to perform her new single, “Going Out Like That.” What is there even to say about a Reba performance? It’s Reba! She’s great! It was great! Blake pretty much summed it up when he bowed to her after her performance was over.
Team Performances
Team Pharrell
Pharrell took the stage for the first time with his remaining team members: Koryn Hawthorne and Sawyer Fredericks. They performed Gavin DeGraw’s hit “I Don’t Want to Be,” and somehow it came across as kind of awkward, with just the three of them. What was cool, was that Pharrell had reached out to fans on Tumblr to create some original art, and some of it was featured on the screens in the background of the performance.
Team Adam
Team Adam’s Deanna Johnson and Joshua Davis were joined by their coach to perform “The Joker” by the Steve Miller Band. They made a great little trio, really seeming to enjoy their performance. Adam always seems to be a little bit more into his own performance than the group’s, and that was the same here, but Josh was having enough fun for all three of them.
Results
Carson revealed the results of America’s votes throughout the show, and in the end, it was revealed that the bottom three contestants were Rob Taylor, Deanna Johnson, and Joshua Davis. Rob’s presence in the bottom three was surprising, since he had such a strong performance last night. His coach Christina spoke very sweetly about their time together, bringing Rob to tears. Adam was in a tough spot, with the possibility of losing his two remaining contestants and being knocked out of the competition entirely. He doesn’t seem to have as much faith in this season’s team as he has in the past, almost like he’s already washed his hands of them and accepted defeat.
Last Chance Performances
Rob Taylor
Rob Taylor chose the Otis Redding classic “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” for his last chance performance. It’s surprising that he ended up in the bottom at all, after his excellent performance last night, but it happens to the best, so he brought his A-game to this performance, as well.
Deanna Johnson
In what was a very clever song choice, Deanna Johnson performed Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make It Through the Night” for her last chance performance, hope the Instant Save would help her make it through the night. It was a beautiful performance from Deanna, and as Adam pointed out, she always does her best when it comes down to the wire.
Joshua Davis
Maybe everyone was sending a message with their last chance performance song choice, because Joshua Davis chose Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.” It was a great song to showcase some more of what Josh has up his sleeve, including his nice upper register, which didn’t go unnoticed by Adam. He may have had a few cracks in his voice, but he always seems to genuinely enjoy performing.
Instant Save
After their last chance performances, the viewers were given the chance to vote to save their favorite bottom three contestant using the #VoiceSave hashtag. The results were shown live onscreen for almost the full five minutes of the voting period, and while last week’s results were neck and neck, this week’s were pretty clear from the start. Joshua Davis was well ahead of both Deanna and Rob, and when the voting was closed, Carson revealed that Joshua Davis was the artist saved by America this week, meaning the end of the road for Rob Taylor and Deanna Johnson.
Tune in next Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC to see The Voice top 8 contestants perform, and find out the results on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
