TV Fanatic caught up with new The Vampire Diaries cast member Kendrick Sampson, and the actor shares some great new information about his character Jesse in this video interview:

“He’s a cool guy, charming… he’s kind of amazing,” Sampson laughs, adding, “he’s fun. He’s persistent, he’s a fighter. He’s very determined to get what he’s going after.”

But what is he going after? Does he come to Mystic Falls for a reason, or is it mainly a romance he’s going to be pursuing?

On that front, the actor heavily implies that Jesse will be making a move on Caroline (Candice Accola), though of course the big question is whether his feelings will be reciprocated.

Caroline is used to being pursued, of course, and despite the fact that she’s still dating Tyler (Michael Trevino), she seems to kind of enjoy it. And Jesse, “doesn’t take no for an answer,” Sampson promises.

Already juggling both Tyler and the recently departed Klaus (Joseph Morgan), we wonder how Caroline will react to this new potential love interest. Maybe being at college and itching for new experiences will make her a bit more tempted to give in!

But the character of course has more to him than a love story. “You can expect some secrets,” the actor teases, complete with a little eyebrow-waggle.

However, Sampson claims that the character is not aware of the supernatural world before encountering the Mystic Falls vampires, so what might those secrets be?

Your guess is as good as ours, of course – but luckily we don’t have to wait long to find out what happens.

The Vampire Diaries season 5 premieres Thursday, October 3, airing at 8/7c on The CW.
