‘The Politician’ reveals first look photos, season 2 Netflix release date

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our coverage will be reduced. We can't wait to get back to serving you all of the latest fandom news as soon as we can.

Ryan Murphy’s The Politician has given us our first look at season 2 and let us know when we can expect to see it drop on Netflix!

The second season of Ryan Murphy’s dark comedy series will premiere on Netflix on Friday, June 19.

The Politician centers on Payton Hobart, a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California, who has known since age seven that he’s going to be the president of the United States. However, first he’ll have to navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all — high school.

In addition to Platt, the series also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones, Jessica Lange, and Benjamin Barrett. Season 2 will add Judith Light and Bettle Midler to the cast.

Season 2 of The Politician will follow Payton as he tries to unseat Dede Standish (played by Judith Light) in the New York State Senate race. As a long-time incumbent and greatly admired Senate Majority Leader with no-nonsense Chief of Staff, Hadassah Gold (played Bette Midler) at her side, Dede’s re-election was supposed to be easy.

However, Payton — who sees this as the next step on his path to the presidency — must decide what kind of politician he ultimately wants to be in order to succeed, even if that means exposing secrets, lies, and a throuple.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the second season of The Politician features seven episodes that were completed before the coronavirus pandemic.

In terms of what we might see in a third season — if the show gets one — writer, showrunner and executive produce Ryan Murphy stated that he’d want to wait a few years before releasing a third one.

“I think where season 2 ends, what I would love to do is take a couple of years off and have Ben Platt get a little bit older for his final race,” Murphy said in an interview with Collider. “That would obviously be a presidential race, right? That’s always what we had designed, and I think that’s what our plan is.”

He added, “I’m going to wait. Ben is young, so I want to wait a couple of years to figure out how we age him up a little bit. But that’s always been my plan.”

The Politician season 2 premieres on Netflix Friday, June 19. Check out some photos from season 2 below!
