‘The Originals’ season 2, episode 20 recap
Klaus meets with Dahlia. She tells him she has a proposition for him, and walks him toward a scene. He watches two sisters, Dahlia and Esther, pledge to stick together, “always and forever” even as they are soon pulled away by Vikings that slaughter the rest of the village.
Freya proposes that Elijah bring Hope to be used as bait to lure Dahlia to a trap. He thinks it’s convenient that she brings this up now that Klaus is gone, but she insists that this is the only way to keep Hope safe in the long run.
Marcel dragged Rebekah off to the safe house that had been arranged for Hope. He reminds her that if she was killed or hurt, that so would a whole host of young witches that are linked to her. He then drags Vincent into the house to help her with the unlinking spell.
Jackson has fashioned a burial spot for Aiden, citing that he can’t keep carrying his body around while they run. When Hayley sees that he plans to put him to rest as the pack would do a murderer or a traitor, she reminds him that Aiden’s loyalty is what got him killed. She decides that they have to show the pack that their lives matter, and they are going to take Aiden down river to be mourned as any loyal wolf would be.
Elijah and Cami bring a collection of dark objects to the safe house for Vincent to help them fashion into a decoy. When Vincent refuses and Elijah gets cranky about it, Cami suggests they ask Davina.
Josh packs a bag and prepares to leave, because he doesn’t know what else to do. He regrets spending Aiden’s last day saying goodbye to everyone except Aiden as they were preparing to leave together. Josh never even got to say goodbye to the man he loved.
Cami and Rebekah took their collection of dark objects to Davina, and when Rebekah pokes around a bit and finds the resurrection spell Davina had been working on to bring Kol back, it sparks an idea. Kol tried to use a gollum to rid himself of the curse that killed him. It could work in this instance. If they can channel enough power into the gollum, they can use it as the decoy.
Dahlia is trying to use her memories to paint herself and Klaus in the same light. She wants Klaus to see that their stories are the same. Dahlia then tells him that the next thing she wants to show him is about his daughter, and if he wants to have any hope of saving her, he better pay attention.
Dahlia shows him a memory of Freya losing control of her power and how she helped the eldest Mikaelson daughter calm down. She tells Klaus that the firstborn witches in their family have incredible power, and that combined with his vampire blood and Hayley’s wolf gene, Hope will be even worse than Freya. Dahlia alone can teach her control and discipline.
Marcel walks in on Elijah having a weak moment. He is standing over Klaus’ daggered body and thinking about how they ended up there. Marcel reminds him that they just sidelined one of their fiercest weapons, and that now Elijah needs to think like Klaus. Elijah tells Marcel about Klaus not killing Aiden.
Elijah meets with Freya, who has just located Hayley and Hope and is off to fetch herself a baby. He then tells her that he will bring the baby to her once she has prepared the battle field and completed the spell that will defeat Dahlia.
Dahlia proposes to Klaus that he will get to raise his daughter, but that she will also be a part of Hope’s life. She wants to channel Hope’s power, and help her to control her gifts, but also provide the girl with what she denied Freya: a parent.
Elijah ventures into the bayou to see Hope, and is attacked by a small number of wolves, including Jackson. Jackson calls Elijah out. He lays it all out there. He knows that Elijah wants Hayley, and he knows that if Elijah were to kill him, Hayley would never want Elijah again. Alas, Elijah can’t kill Jackson.
Soon after, Hayley arrives with Hope. Elijah tells them about his plan. All he needs from them is a vial of Hope’s blood to use for the decoy.
Dahlia tells Klaus that in order for their plan to work, Hayley must be eliminated, as she will never allow them to raise Hope in peace. Before Klaus can agree or disagree to this idea, Dahlia blows some sort of ash in his face, and he is returned to his dessicated form. He wakens and pulls the dagger from his own chest. TROUBLE.
Jackson tells Hayley that he needs her to decide between him and the Mikaelsons as to who she calls family. His family is here with the wolves, but he can’t be a good Alpha from beneath the Mikaelsons roof. He leaves her to decide, and he goes out to begin Aiden’s funeral. She joins him seconds later and tells him that he is her family. A moment later, Josh arrives.
Freya is setting the trap to turn Dahlia mortal. Elijah has her explain how it works once more before he injects her with the vial of Hope’s blood that he took from Hayley. She is their bait. Now, Dahlia will hunt her, thinking she is Hope.
Josh gets a chance to say goodbye to Aiden before the wolf funeral begins, then Jackson covers Aiden with a cloth and sets him adrift in a flaming canoe in the lake.
Hayley calls Elijah and leaves a message saying goodbye. She doesn’t want Hope to be a Mikaelson because along with that name, she will inherit all their enemies and troubles. Klaus overhears this and then stumbles his way to Dahlia’s side.
Klaus warns Dahlia that their family will stand behind Hayley and fight against them. She doesn’t seem fazed in the least. We then see her stirring a mortar full of blood as she casts a spell to bring a terrible storm to the bayou, keeping Hayley and Hope from getting very far that night.
