It’s the end of an era. Showrunner Greg Daniels has confirmed that The Office‘s upcoming 9th season will be its last.

After series-low ratings following Steve Carell’s departure, is reporting that showrunner Greg Daniels has confirmed that this season will indeed be the last for the folks at Dunder Mifflin.

Daniels had some very interesting comments regarding the final season, including a revelation of who is behind the documentary of the show (remember the show is styled as a “mockumentary” which has since become standard place in network television):

“This year feels like the last chance to … make an artistic ending for the show,” he said. “This will be the last season of The Office, and we’re planning a big exciting last season … all questions will be answered this year. We’re going to see who’s behind the documentary.”

Daniels also says to expect a lot of surprises and that season 9 will focus a lot on Pam and Jim:

We will be doing more [character] arcs, and more drama in the Jim and Pam story line. We are planning some big surprises … I’m guessing the show will feel more like Dunder-Mifflin from before the Sabre merger [when former showrunner Paul Lieberstein took over].

It’s a bittersweet moment for The Office fans. The show has been around for so long. What are your thoughts about The Office finally saying goodbye?
