The first clip from the upcoming Despicable Me spinoff Minions has been released and depicts the adorable little guys arriving in The Big Apple.
Minions is an origin story of sorts as it follows their life before Gru. In this clip we see three of the film’s lead yellow characters in dire conditions on a boat before they discover that they’ve made it to New York City:
As you see in the clip, Minions is set partially in the 1960s which will surely please parents who are bringing their children to the theater but aren’t fans of the series. The nostalgia will help them deal with the minions blabbering on.
The minion characters are adorable as ever as they make their way to America. After the success of Despicable Me and its sequel (the latter of which played up the minions even more), it was smart for Universal to create a film that focused squarely on the little yellow guys.
What’s happening in this film? As Universal puts it: “Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.
“But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he — alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob — ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.”
The minions will eventually meet Scarlet Overkill, “the world’s first-ever female super-villain,” voiced by Sandra Bullock.
Minions opens in theaters July 10, 2015. We can’t wait to watch these guys entertain us for 90 minutes straight!
