The Leftovers season 2 is as much of a mystery as season 1. The first teaser trailer from HBO relocates fans to new terrain.
Earlier this year HBO announced that season 2 of last summer’s hit series The Leftovers would be relocating to Texas. Not only would the cast and crew be packing their bags and heading to Austin for filming, but the entire Garvey family would make the move down to the Lone Star State. In the official teaser trailer released today by HBO it becomes apparent why — Jarden, Texas has zero departures.
The Leftovers, based on the novel by the same name, is set in a world three years after 2% of the population disappeared into thin air. In Mapleton, New York, the setting for season 1, the story centered on the Garvey family and the fallout their family faced as a result. Two patriarchs went a bit insane, a mother left to join the silent cult, The Guilty Remnant, and a son fled to follow a man by the name of Holy Wayne.

The small town of Mapleton exhausted all of the source material from Tom Perrotta’s novel. Season 2 paves the way for a new story to be told. The creators, Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, decided to take their tale to Texas. In today’s trailer it appears that the location is treated as a holy ground in America. As the camera moves up the line of cars with plates from various states, from New York to Colorado, we see that all wait for entrance.
Here is the Garvey family, including cast members Justin Theroux (Kevin Garvey), Chris Zylka (Tommy Garvey), Amy Brenneman (Laurie Garvey), Margaret Qualley (Jill Garvey), Christopher Eccleston (Reverend Matt Jamison), and Carrie Coon (Nora Durst).
They will join newcomers Regina King, Kevin Carroll, and Jovan Adepo who will play their new neighbors.
The Leftovers will return this fall to HBO.
