How to Get Away With Murder is known for finales and premieres that deliver a massive bang, and last night’s return was no different with a ton of feels and shocking revelations.
We finally learned more about Gabriel’s mysterious past, uncovered the details behind those adoption papers, and a few new things got set into motion in terms of where Annalise, Bonnie, Nate, Frank, and the Keating kids’ stories will go for the remainder of this season.
A lot of stuff went down, but there were a few questions that really got me this episode:
Why didn’t Sam die sooner?
Sam is one of the most trash TV husbands of all-time. He abandoned his pregnant ex-wife and baby, kept major secrets from Annalise, and was a serial cheater.
Don’t get me wrong, Annalise also played a role in the breakdown of his first marriage, but he was the one who made a commitment to be with his first wife. And, even after everything that Annalise endured, he still cheated on her and got a college student pregnant.
Gross. It’s shocking that no one took him out before Wes got a chance, which itself is quite ironic considering he was the kid that Frank didn’t want to adopt years prior. Hello, sweet karma…we are glad you took care of Sam.
What’s up with Eve?
How in the heck did Eve get Sam’s deleted email to Vivian? Why is she involved in this?
And, why has she decided to come to Annalise with this email YEARS LATER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT? She could have waited until it was daylight.
Sure, it’s probably because she knows Gabriel is in town, but she could have given Annalise this information a long time ago or even when Gabriel first arrived on the scene. It doesn’t make sense for Eve nor Frank to hide this massive secret for so many years. And, things usually get strange when Eve is back in town.
I guess Annalise really doesn’t have normal friends.
What’s the deal with Gabriel’s personality?
Is Gabriel a sociopath or is he just a strange guy? It was easier to sympathize with him last night after hearing his backstory, but there’s still something suspicious about this dude from his cold stare to his deadpan jokes to his Joe Goldberg online stalking abilities.
He’s a hard person to figure out and I honestly have no idea where they are going with his story next, but it’s intriguing enough to keep fans tuned in.
What’s class going to be like now?
Things are already awkward enough in Annalise’s class with three of the Keating murder crew staring at her every day. Now, it’s going to be exceptionally awkward to look at her dead husband’s son who is digging around at a murder that she wants left alone.
A preview after the episode showed the Keating kids trepidation about Gabriel being Sam’s son, so it will be interesting to see how they interact with him in the upcoming episodes.
How will Nate get away with murder?
Congratulations, Nate! You are now officially a part of the murder crew!
Nate decided to induct himself with a bang by murdering DA Miller, and now he’s depending on Bonnie and Frank to get him out of this mess. They are certainly the resident experts of covering things up, but this isn’t looking good for Nate.
He’s going to be a primary suspect for sure, and I’m not sure how (and if) he can just waltz back into work like nothing is going on. And, there’s no way Annalise won’t somehow find out and be involved in this mess as well on top of the Gabriel drama.
If the biggest question this season is about Gabriel, then the next one is about how Nate will get off with this serious crime.
