We highly recommend securing your Hobbit tickets now if you want to attend a midnight or primetime weekend screening, as the film is sure be in big demand on release weekend. You have five different viewing experiences: 2D, 3D, IMAX, and IMAX 3D in addition to the new 48 frames-per-second format, which the film was shot in. Variety reports that the 48 frames-per-second version, which was heavily criticized earlier this year for being uncomfortably life-like, will open in at least one theater in every major United States city. In addition, the 48 fps screenings will only be in 3D.

The country of New Zealand, where The Hobbit trilogy was shot, is gearing up to host the world premiere of Part 1: An Unexpected Journey. The city of Wellington will change their name to “The Middle of Middle-earth” for three weeks. The new name will be used on letters, in the city’s newspaper, and on postcards. The city’s new logo can be seen in our previous story. It was designed by Daniel Reeve, who did cartography and calligraphy for the films.
