Hulu has just released its first teaser trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale season 4, which shows us that change never comes easy.
The fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale continues the story of June, who ended season 3 being taken care of by some of her fellow handmaids after being shot by a gun.
Though her plan to help a large population of girls escape Gilead on a plane was successful, there’s still plenty of work to be done and a long way to go to make real changes.
Season 4 will see her rebellion against the totalitarian regime of Gilead and dealing with a whole bunch of obstacles that we have yet to learn about.
“You don’t want to be setting up season 4 in season 3. Audiences smell that coming,” showrunner Bruce Miller previously said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “So what I do is completely screw myself at the end of the season. Then you think, ‘Oh, there’s a whole bunch of smart writers who will come in next season and solve that problem.'”
Hopefully season 4 and its writers did just that!

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values’.
As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world.
In this terrifying society of The Handmaid’s Tale, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.
Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of The Handmaid’s Tale are already available for streaming on Hulu. Season 4 is set to premiere sometime in 2021.
