Comedian Tone Bell will join The Flash season 2 as Iris’ new boss at Central City Picture News.
Bell will play Scott Evans, who is described as being “[d]evoted to hard journalism,” reports Variety. “Evans will push Iris and all his reporters to dig deeper into their stories and report the truth about what’s really happening in Central City.” He will appear in a mutli-episode arc.
The editor-in-chief position at Central City Picture News was vacated earlier this season when Iris’ former boss was killed during a confrontation with Earth-2 metahuman Dr. Light. Being a journalist is dangerous in Central City, as Iris has lost a couple of bosses to villains now. The Reverse Flash killed her first boss at CCPN in season 1.
Furthermore, Scott Evans seems to be an original character, as there is no character in the DC Comics with that name. We’ll have to wait to see if his characterization borrows from any more familiar figures, as both The Flash and Arrow have done with original characters before.
Besides stand-up comedy, Bell’s credits include Truth Be Told, Bad Judge and Whitney.
As a stand-up comedian, Bell won NBC’s Stand Up for Diversity showcase in 2011, which earned him a development deal and the role on Whitney. He recently co-created a comedy series based on his life that he sold to FX. Bell will executive produce, write and star in the currently untitled series.
The Flash just aired its season 2 mid-season finale, “Running to Stand Still,” and it will be on break until January 19, 2016. Watch a promo for the mid-season premiere, titled “Potential Energy,” below:
