Beloved sci-fi series The Expanse has been saved following its cancellation by SyFy. The show will return for a fourth season on Amazon.
The announcement came during the National Space Society’s International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles. Jeff Bezos, Chief Executive Officer of Amazon, made the announcement himself during a Q&A session at the event.
Cas Anvar, and several other cast members from the show, were in the audience. Anvar filmed the announcement.

“I was talking to the cast half an hour ago, before the break for dinner started,” Bezos said. “I was telling them that we are working hard at Amazon to save The Expanse but it wasn’t a done deal yet. During dinner, ten minutes ago, I just got word that The Expanse is saved. The show is extraordinary and these guys are unbelievably talented.”
The cast and crew of The Expanse also held a panel at the event, which featured executive producer and showrunner Naren Shankar, as well as cast members Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and Steven Strait. The Expanse panel took place an hour before Bezos made his announcement.
Alcon Entertainment co-Founders and co-CEOs, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, also released a statement about Amazon saving the show from cancellation.
“We couldn’t be more excited that The Expanse is going to continue on Amazon Prime!” Kosove and Johnson said. “We are deeply grateful that Jeff Bezos, Jen Salke, and their team at Amazon have shown such faith in our show. We also want to thank Laura Lancaster, head of Alcon Television, for her tireless efforts. We are fully aware that this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the staggering outpouring of support from the most creative, hardest working sci-fi fans around the world. From reddit campaigns to airplanes, we say thank you. It worked!”
The Expanse is the second show to be saved following its cancellation. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which was axed by Fox, was similarly picked up by NBC, shortly after it was cancelled.
There was no announcement on when fans should expect The Expanse season 4 to debut on Amazon Prime.
