The Doctor Who Experience moves to Cardiff

Earlier this year we reported on the Doctor Who Experience that was situated in London. They’ve now moved shop over to Cardiff where the series is largely filmed.

According to the BBC

The attraction, which features sets, props and memorabilia from the BBC series, closed in London in February to make way for its move to Cardiff Bay.

The new 3,000 sq m building is at Porth Teigr, next door to the BBC’s Roath Lock studios, where Doctor Who, Casualty and Pobol y Cwm are produced.

The exhibition is expected to attract up to 250,000 visitors a year.

The internal fitting of the building will take place over the coming weeks.

The Doctor Who Experience isn’t the only thing that is relocating to Roath Lock. According to the Doctor Who Facebook page, they completed filming at the Upper Boat Studios location that they have been using since the 2005 reboot. The photos below depict the former studio’s on-theme canteen and the screen used in the Titanic episode, as well as the frontage of the Roath Lock location.

They are now in the process of moving down to Roath Lock. Roath Lock is relatively near Roald Dahl Plass, the site of the Torchwood HUB entrance, and several other recognizable locations. Fans can expect to see a bit of a hiatus in filming on location until everything in the new studio is squared away. Once it’s all up and running, expect to see new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman about town with Matt Smith, Steven Moffat, and company.

UPDATE: The Experience will be opening the doors to its distinctive new home in Cardiff Bay on 20th July! Tickets available to purchase on 14th June! Visit for more info.
