Sheldon shared a major secret with Amy, and no one else could communicate effectively on The Big Bang Theory 9×19.
In “The Solder Excursion Diversion,” Sheldon took a leap in his relationship with Amy. No, it wasn’t a proposal, and it wasn’t moving in together, but it still seems to have effected a change between the geeky couple.
After Amy audaciously replaced his beloved and very broken laptop, Sheldon led Amy to the site of a terrible secret. This revelation came in the form of a tidy, but extremely bizarre storage unit, in which he saves basically everything he’s ever owned.
Yes, Dr. Cooper is a hoarder.
Sheldon is not only embarrassed by the extreme nature of his condition; he considers it a major character flaw, and one that makes him something of a hypocrite. After all, as Amy can testify at considerable length, there is no greater proponent of emotionless living than Sheldon.
But though Amy has to be content with Sheldon’s revealed secret (instead of, you know, him actually being nice to her) she continues to deliver as his girlfriend. Amy comforts Sheldon, and offers a few therapeutic words. She doesn’t judge him or criticize him because, as we all know, Sheldon is the only one who is allowed to be mean in this relationship.
Anyway, Amy’s words do help, and Sheldon decides to take a small step toward curbing the habit of preserving his entire life. It turns out to be a smaller step than he lets on, but you know. Baby steps.
Elsewhere in Pasadena, other members of other relationships are also behaving badly. Leonard and Howard take advantage of Penny and Bernadette’s offer to help with an experiment, and abandon them to their own devices when they get to screen Suicide Squad. But the jig is up when Howard, also kind of sucky at the whole “being a good person” thing, gleefully texts Raj about the screening.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view) Raj has come to the lab and is hanging out with the girls. Egged on by Raj, all three plot revenge — only to have their ire diffused when Howard and Leonard return apologetically and take them to dinner.
As Raj admits, it’s all a little anti-climactic. For once, take a tip from Sheldon, kids: Tell your spouse the truth. You’re just going to act weird and tip them off anyway.
