Watch Taylor Swift make her more drastic transformation yet in “The Man,” her newest video — which she directed — and the fourth single off of Lover.
Taylor Swift has had a lot of different looks during her 14 year career.
She first appeared on the scene as a fresh-faced country music star with long, curly hair, and guitar slung on her shoulders. Eventually her curly hair disappeared, and her now trademark red lip stick made its debut, and she became more known for her pop songs than her country twang. There was, of course, the 2016 period that was all snakes, dark looks and leather, then her more recent reinvention that softened into pastels, soft sunlight and butterflies.
However, her newest look in the music video for “The Man” is her most shocking transformation yet!
In the new video for her feminist anthem “The Man,” Taylor Swift dons makeup and prosthetics to become a man-spreading, tantrum-throwing, model-chasing, high powered business executive who basically gets to do whatever he wants without consequence because he’s — you guessed it — the man.
The credits make sure to emphasize the video is also written, directed, and owned by Taylor Swift, which is a reference to Swift’s ongoing battle with the music manager Scooter Braun.
“The Man” is the first music video directed completely by Taylor Swift, though the pop stasr previously co-directed her videos for “You Need to Calm Down” with close friend and YouTuber Todrick Hall, and “ME!” with Drew Kirsch.
During a recent YouTube Q&A with fans, Taylor Swift was asked what she loved about directing her first music video and she said that she loved “…the months of prep, meetings, location scouting, set design, mood boards, deciding every detail down to the wardrobe each actress/actor wore and working with them on set.”
When asked what was her favorite part of directing the video, Taylor Swift replied “all of it.”
